The University Counseling Center would like to share two important updates with our community: (French below)
NACAC Advocacy Day
Our University Counseling team, Ms. Ashley Cole and Ms. Kristen Carter, spent a day on Capitol Hill in March 2020 with NACAC, the National Association of College Admissions Counselors. This was part of their annual Advocacy Day program. Here, they met with local Senate and Congressional offices to discuss educational issues that impact our students and students in our region. Topics of particular focus were international student mobility (students coming in and out of the US for high school and university level education), school safety, student to counselor ratios, access to quality counseling, rigorous curriculum for all students, the Higher Education Act (HEA), and need-based financial aid. Our team visited the offices of Senators’ Cardin (MD), Van Hollen (MD) and Kaine (VA), as well as Representatives Warner (VA), Hoyer (MD) and Beyer (MD). As a result of this event, Ms. Ashley Cole is now serving on the Government Relations Committee for the PCACAC affiliate of NACAC (Potomac and Chesapeake Area), and our counseling team is looking forward to additional advocacy work on behalf of our students, families and colleagues.

Being on the front lines, even for just a day, was an extremely rewarding experience and it felt great to have our voices heard. Ms. Carter inducted into Chi Sigma Iota, Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society
Also in March, Ms. Carter, our University Counselor and Testing Coordinator, was inducted into the international and professional academic honor society for counseling students, counselor educators, and professional counselors, Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) - Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International. CSI is an active member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Ms. Carter’s invitation was based on her graduate GPA at Hood College, where she received a Masters of Counseling in 2018, along with a recommendation from her professor. Please join us in congratulating Ms. Carter on her professional and academic accomplishments. We are proud to have her as a member of the Rochambeau community!

Notre équipe de University Counselors, Mme Ashley Cole et Mme Kristen Carter, ont passé une journée au Capitole en mars 2020 avec la NACAC, l'Association nationale des conseillers d'admission aux universités. Cela faisait partie de leur programme annuel de représentation/promotion du conseil en orientation universitaire. Elles y ont rencontré les représentants locaux du Sénat et du Congrès pour discuter des questions d'éducation qui ont un impact sur nos élèves et ceux de notre région. Notre équipe a visité les cabinets des sénateurs Cardin (MD), Van Hollen (MD) et Kaine (VA), ainsi que des représentants Warner (VA), Hoyer (MD) et Beyer (MD). À la suite de cet événement, Mme Ashley Cole fait désormais partie du Comité des relations gouvernementales pour la PCACAC affiliée à la NACAC (Potomac et Chesapeake Area), et notre équipe de University Counselors se réjouit de ce soutien supplémentaire au nom de nos élèves, familles et collègues.

En mars également, Mme Carter, notre University Counselor et coordinatrice des tests, a été admise au sein de la société d'honneur académique internationale et professionnelle pour le conseil aux élèves, les formateurs de conseillers et les conseillers professionnels, le Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) - Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International. La CSI est un membre actif de l'Association of College Honor Societies. L'invitation de Mme Carter était basée sur sa moyenne générale au Hood College, où elle a obtenu un master en conseil en 2018, sur recommandation de son professeur.
